Held 10th September in Muenster, Germany, the Fullblood Wagyu sale within the second annual European Wagyu Gala saw a top price of €29,000 (£26,363) paid by Jan Pohlmeyer of Holstein-Wagyu, Negenharrie, Holstein, Germany for the September 2015-born Elisif sired by Itomoritaka and out of Eva WWSG577, a daughter of Misako FB5768 who is in the top Genestar 1% for marbling. This embryo daughter was consigned by Dr Christian Niewoehner and bred by Wagyu Muensterland.
Overall, 33 heifers averaged €11,082 with 4 bulls settling at €6,000 per head. Embryos levelled at €1,497 for 15 sold and 3 unborn embryo calves sold for €3,500 apiece with their recipient dams. All told, the auction grossed just over €400,000.
Purchasers of the top price, Holstein-Wagyu, were in action throughout the sale as they snapped up a further 7 lots at 17,500, 16,200, 12000, 11000, 9500, 8500 and 7500 euros respectively.
Getting the sale off to a flying start was the first lot in the ring, the heifer calf Musumi Misako born February 2016 and consigned by joint sellers Wagyu Munsterland & PrismaGen who went under the hammer to Sigrid Keweloh of Haru Wagyu, Mutlangen for €23,000. This one was sired by Itoshigenami TF148 and out of Misako FB5768 and bred by Wagyu Sekai, Canada.
